{Creatures of the Night}

Our Nocturnal Animals Unit sure was spooky...

To experience what nocturnal animals experience, we participated in Daily 5--flashlight style! It sure was fun, but our eyes are not equipped with night vision like most nocturnal animals.

The Twosies each researched a nocturnal animal of their choice.
They were responsible for finding out the following information:
-animal kingdom
-habitat
-color/description
-height/weight
-diet
-predators
-strengths/weaknessess

They had to complete an informational writing about their animal and they also had to create a digital poster to share their learning. We used Google Slides to create our posters!

To end our unit, we dissected owl pellets.
Watch this video if you aren't sure what owl pellets are!

You can visit this website to dissect an owl pellet virtually!

{Small Moment Stories}

The Twosies worked really hard during the first nine weeks to complete a published Small Moment Story. Their goal of the Small Moment story was to zoom in one one significant moment of their life. They were to tell the story with enough details that the reader would feel like they were there.

We worked on using our senses to tell what we could see, hear, taste, smell, and feel. We then tried to add some dialogue to bring our story to life! We also attempted to make some comparisons (similes and metaphors) that would strengthen our use or words.

{Fairytales Research Posters}

Our Fairy Tales Unit was so magical! We learned all about the elements of Fairy Tales, the history of Fairy Tales, and read lots of traditional and fractured versions. Then we grouped ourselves to research Knights, Castles, Dragons, and Royalty. Each group was armed with a research guide, books, and some websites to view. The groups had to define their topic and discuss its history, list some fun facts, and a include a diagram.

The Twosies used their Research Guides to create posters that would share their knowledge with others.

Here are the finished products:

We ended our unit with a celebration where we presented our research posters...

...made some really cool crowns...

...and enjoyed some special "fairy wand" treats!

What a fun and exciting unit!!
And they lived happily ever after!
